We had no plans to start a new business in 2025. But when Santa brought our 9-year-old a 3D printer for Christmas, things took an unexpected turn...

Here we are and ModoWorks is almost a month old!

Here's what happened:

When our 9-year old son got a 3D printer for Christmas, we started making stuff. Some of it fun, some of it practical. ModoDad has a web engineering background, loves to tinker, and is a perfectionist, so he may have been having more fun with the printer than our son...

I (ModoMom) asked him if he could print out some magnets for our daughter's Girl Scout Troop, which I'm the leader of. They turned out great! After seeing how much our troop loved them, I wondered if other troops might, too. A quick search on Etsy showed me there weren't tons of options out there - so I decided to give it a shot. I set up an Etsy shop and listed some Personalized Girl Scout Keychains. My background is in marketing so that side of the business comes very easily to me. We were set up to sell in no time.

Within a few days, we had an order come in for 10 of them...then an order for 50. In marketing, we call that Product Market Fit (PMF) - basically, when people really love what you're selling. When that happens, it's time to hit the gas and grow.

And that's what we're doing! We are creating more and more items and content for our shop. Everything you see has meaning to us, be it a favorite team, a pastime, or something we've made for the kids that they love.

ModoMom and ModoDad both work full time, but in our free time we're coming up with our next product to offer. Along the way we're teaching the ModoKids (ages 7 and 9) what it's like to have a small business run out of the house. (For example, sometimes the printer has to run all  night to keep up with demand for Josh Allen MVP Keychains!)

On this blog, I'll share a little bit about each of our products and why they're important and meaningful to us - they all have a story!
